QUANG BINH DATABASE AND COORDINATION UNIT - THE FOCAL POINT OF MINE ACTION COORDINATING IN THE PROVINCE

Since its establishment in late 2020, the Quang Binh Database and Coordination Unit (QB DBCU) has made rapid development to assist the Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) and Provincial Mine Action Steering Committee (PMASC) in effectively managing and coordinating mine action activities province-wide. The DBCU facilitate various operations of mine action organizations with their optimized resources, which significantly contribute to address the legacies of war and support the provincial socio-economic development.

NEW ADDITIONAL FUNDING FROM USDOS FOR INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION IN MINE ACTION IN VIETNAM.

NPA has recently received additional new funding from Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs (PM/WRA), covering four-year support to the implementation of Information Management and increased Coordination of mine action in Vietnam. The new grant is from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2025, and this enables NPA continued capacity development to Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC), Quang Tri Mine Action Center (QTMAC), and Quang Binh Database and Coordination Center (DBCU).

NPA TO NEWLY DEPLOY NON-TECHNICAL SURVEY IN QUANG NINH – THE SECOND DISTRICT OF OPERATIONS IN QUANG BINH PROVINCE

On 11 November 2021, NPA started to deploy non-technical survey (NTS) in Quang Ninh which is the second district with field operations in Quang Binh after one year implementing the new Cluster Munition Remnant Survey (CMRS) project in the province. NTS is the first step in CMRS procedure, designed to define start points for Technical Survey with the final aim to accurately identify the boundaries of confirmed hazardous areas. During NTS, besides data verification and collection, NPA’s surveyors also try to disseminate unexploded ordnance risk education messages to help raise awareness of people, partly contributing to bringing safety for local communities.
