WORKSHOP ON DATABASE AND COORDINATION OF MINE ACTION ACTIVITIES IN QUANG BINH PROVINCE

On 30 May 2022, the Quang Binh Database and Coordination Unit (DBCU) has successfully conducted the provincial workshop on ‘Database and Coordination of Mine Action activities in Quang Binh province’. The workshop was a great chance for the DBCU to officially introduce the mine action coordination model to provincial stakeholders and media, as well as partners from Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces. The DBCU presented their processes for collecting information from mine action operators and uses this information for socio-economic development planning and operational tasking. The event was a great opportunity to highlight the positive changes in working and coordination mechanism within mine action sector since the DBCU was established in late 2020 – most notably, the increased coordination between the Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Foreign Affairs, the Provincial Military Command and international operators.
“After only two years, the DBCU has developed into a well-functioning unit, supporting Provincial People’s Committee and Provincial Military Command in managing the mine action database and coordinating mine action activities in the province in an effective and cost-efficient manner,” said Mr. Hoang Xuan Dong, Quang Binh Provincial Military Command Deputy Commander and Provincial Mine Action Steering Committee Vice Chairman during a speech at the event.
Kimberley McCosker, NPA Vietnam Project Manager extended the congratulations from NPA Vietnam to Quang Binh Province, and the DBCU in particular, for the significant success of mine action sector over the last couple of years. “This success was made possible because of strong leadership from local authorities and partnerships among all stakeholders, as well as commitment from the United States Government. We look forward to seeing the coordination model strengthen and continue to improve, so that we can achieve our shared goal of making people in Quang Binh province safe from the impacts of explosive ordnance”.
