On Friday, 16 September 2022, Norwegian People’s Aid Vietnam was honored to receive a visit from Ms. Donna Welton, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Programs and Operations in the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, and an accompanying delegation in Quang Binh province.
PA Vietnam has the pleasure to host the NPA Head Office Monitoring (MT) team for their mission in Vietnam from 21 Aug to 2 September. The team consists of Mr. Aksel Steen-Nilsen, Country Director of NPA Thailand and Palau, Mr. Nermin Mujcinovic, Senior Technical Advisor Afghanistan, and Mr. Robert White, NPA Global Capacity Development Advisor.
On 17 August 2022, during clearance process, PeaceTrees VietNam Quang Binh’s Battle Area Clearance Teams found a stack of 28 explosive ordnances at one spot at the confirmed hazardous area (CHA-407-0002) in Sao Sa village, Nam Trach commune, Bo Trach district.
On 30 May 2022, the Quang Binh Database and Coordination Unit (DBCU) has successfully conducted the provincial workshop on ‘Database and Coordination of Mine Action activities in Quang Binh province’. The workshop was a great chance for the DBCU to officially introduce the mine action coordination model to provincial stakeholders and media, as well as partners from Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces. The DBCU presented their processes for collecting information from mine action operators and uses this information for socio-economic development planning and operational tasking. The event was a great opportunity to highlight the positive changes in working and coordination mechanism within mine action sector since the DBCU was established in late 2020 – most notably, the increased coordination between the Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Foreign Affairs, the Provincial Military Command and international operators.
