Ba Don township is located along important routes North-South (National Highway 1A), East-West (National Highway 12A), railway, river way (Gianh river) and sea waterway (with the coastline of over 10km long)

Ba Don township has 16 commune-level administrative units. On 20 December 2013, Ba Don Township was established at the Resolution 125/NQ-CP issued by the Government on the adjustment of administrative borders and establishment of Ba Don township, Quang Binh province. The township is situated 24 km from Ngang Pass to the South and 40km from Dong Hoi city to the North. This is a favorable condition for Ba Down for political and economic development and cultural exchange.
